"It is important that we have a person who will listen to the concerns of the students, teachers, and staff. David has proven himself to be a respected leader."
         - Lisa Kobayashi, district parent

I am honored to serve on the Berryessa School Board since being elected in 2006. I have worked tirelessly to make sure that our children continue to have the opportunities they deserve to learn and thrive. Our district's test scores have continued to climb. I provided the leadership on the board to place Measure W on the ballot, a parcel tax measure that provides $1.7 million annually to the district. Measure W passed with over 72% support of the voters. I have served as an officer each of my four years on the board, and am currently serving my second consecutive year as President of the Board.

My wife and I have lived in Berryessa since 1998 and I have taken a strong interest in our community the entire time. Before serving on the School Board, I was a member of the San Jose Library Commission. As vice-chair of the commission, I led the Benefit Assessment District oversight committee, which ensures that parcel tax money is being used properly - to buy books, computer equipment, and support staff at our wonderful city library system. I helped with the Measure S campaign to renew this vital funding. For two years, I had the pleasure of chairing the Library Commission, and represented the library system at press conferences, community meetings, and television programs. I also advocated before the City Council to minimize the effect of budget cuts on residents' access to library services.

I believe that it is important to encourage young people to develop leadership skills and a desire to serve the community. For over a decade, I worked with a national college service organization called Alpha Phi Omega. As an advisor to the UC Berkeley chapter, I helped strengthen their program of service. As chair of the section covering Northern California and Nevada, I worked with students on a dozen campuses. I facilitated workshops on effective communication, leadership development, creativity, and conflict resolution.

My wife Shelli is a physician practicing family medicine in Fremont. Our 7 year old daughter Mia is a 2nd grader at Noble Elementary School and also a student of the Berryessa Chinese School, where she is learning Mandarin, adding to her fluency in Spanish. Our son Reed is 4 years old.

I am a Chemical Engineer managing Reactor Modeling for Novellus Systems, a San Jose manufacturer of semiconductor equipment. I have a PhD in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a BS degree from Cornell University.
